Three properties downgraded to evacuation alert; Remaining residents may return home
Central Okanagan, B.C. – The approximately 25 addresses previously tactically evacuated in the Joe Rich area due to the Daves Creek wildfire may return home. However, three addresses within the wildfire zone will be placed on evacuation alert until further notice:
- 5609 Goudie Road
- 5615 Goudie Road
- 5619 Goudie Road
All returning residents must access their homes through Cardinal Creek Road to Sun Valley Road to avoid the ongoing fire suppression efforts occurring within the area.
Highway 33 between Daves Road and Joe Rich Road is open to single-lane alternating traffic. Check drive.bc.ca for current updates.
Please refer to the interactive map on CORDemergency.ca where you can search by street address to determine if you are affected.
Residents on evacuation alert are advised to be ready to leave their home at a moment’s notice. They should be prepared to be away from their home for an extended period of time, make arrangements for pets and pack essential items such as medicines and important documents.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
- Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be called while separated.
- Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure.
- Prepare to move disabled persons, children and/or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
- Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).
- Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles. If transportation assistance is needed contact the Public Information Line at 250-469-8490.
- Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.
- Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating. Monitor cordermergency.ca for information on evacuation orders and location of Reception Centres.
With residents now able to return to their homes the Emergency Support Services muster centres have closed.
As firefighters continue to monitor and address hot spots overnight and over the coming days, residents should expect to see some residual smoke from the wildfire, as well as the regular movement of fire equipment.
Residents who see fire activity outside expected areas should call *5555 to report a wildfire and 911 to report a fire within city limits.
