We are excited to launch a new emergency notification system

Alertable is the latest emergency notification system that provides alerts to residents, businesses, and visitors during critical events, such as fires, floods and other emergencies.

You can sign up to receive emergency notifications or update your existing subscription preferences to receive updates by text message, email, or phone call. These notifications will provide critical, advisory, and informational updates. Central Okanagan Emergency Management Alert notifications will continue to be posted on coemergency.ca and social media channels.

Download the Alertable app before an emergency. Notifications are fast, reliable, private, and easy to hear, see and read. Choose the notification option, or combination of options, that is right for you.

Alertable is available within the Central Okanagan, which includes:

  • Kelowna
  • West Kelowna
  • Lake Country
  • Peachland
  • Westbank First Nation

Frequently Asked Questions

Feedback from residents during community engagement activities made it clear that relying solely on email no longer meets residents' needs. People want timely, accessible emergency information delivered through the channels they use every day, not just their inbox.

To strengthen our ability to reach residents quickly during emergencies, we are adopting Alertable, a notification platform that offers residents the flexibility to choose how they receive critical updates. With Alertable, individuals can select the method that works best for them, including app notifications, SMS/text, phone calls, or email, enabling people to receive alerts in a way that is convenient, reliable and aligned with their preferences.

This transition directly responds to what we heard from the community and supports our ongoing commitment to improving emergency readiness, communication, and public safety across the region.

I've received emails from the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre. Do I need to sign up again?

If you received email updates from the Central Okanagan Emergency Operations Centre in the past, you don't need to sign up again - but you will need to update your preferences to allow more timely and relevant emergency alerts. Choose your locations and the notification types most important to you.

Will I receive notifications for the areas I've selected if I'm out of town?

Yes, but only if you have selected the 'follow me' option when you signed up for the app. You can check your settings and update them anytime.

Can I choose more than one location such as home, office, seasonal property or others?

You can choose notifications for more than one location, such as home, office, family and friends and more. Any emergency updates for your specified locations will be forwarded to you via your preferred communication channel (app, email, text/SMS, phone).

An example: add your home address and notifications within that local jurisdiction's limits will be pushed to you, or select the City/District/First Nation or the entire Central Okanagan and receive emergency-related updates for these locations. You can update these preferences anytime.

How do I receive notifications that are relevant to me?

Alertable's capabilities ensure that you will only get notified when a communication is relevant to you or one of the locations you have specified. You can personalize notifications by type and severity. Receive alerts over a wide variety of communication channels including mobile apps, text/SMS alerting, email or voice calling. Choose any combination that's right for you. Find out more from Alertable's FAQs.

What other channels will be using to issue emergency updates?

We will continue to use our existing website and social media channels to provide updates. To stay informed, you can follow us on our social media channels at X.com/CO_Emerg and Facebook.com/CORDEmergency or visit the advanced map for coemergency.ca/map.
