Warming Centre to close as natural gas restoration service efforts continue
Lake Country, B.C. - The warming centre located at 15710 Oyama Road established to provide temporary comfort to residents affected by the FortisBC gas outage will close at 2 p.m., April 18.
As of 1 p.m., April 18, FortisBC had completed around 3,500 relights for customers. Crews are continuing to make progress to restore natural gas service to the remaining 2,700 customers. Relights will continue until approximately 10 p.m. tonight and begin again tomorrow at 7 a.m. in the communities of Lake Country, Kelowna, and the Okanagan Indian Band (Duck Lake IR7).
Residents can support the restoration efforts and help avoid delays by ensuring crews have clear access to turn on the meters. When a technician arrives, if a resident is home, they will turn the gas back on at the meter and relight the appliances. If the resident is not home, a door tag will be left with instructions on how to request a return visit.
Public safety is a priority. Customers should not turn on their gas meter or relight appliances and should use only appliances approved for indoor use. Learn more by visiting Health Canada – Carbon Monoxide Safety.
