West Kelowna, B.C. – An EVACUATION ALERT has been issued for properties in the Shelter Cove, Secret Point and Cinnabar Creek area.

Residents in the evacuation alert area are advised to remain prepared for potential changes in conditions and pending updated from emergency officials. At this time, do not self-evacuate or get into your vehicle unless specifically directed to do so, as unnecessary travel can contribute to congestion and hinder emergency response operations. Instead, use this time to prepare your emergency kit, gather essential medications, important documents, pet supplies, and other necessities that you may need if an evacuation order is issued.

The following addresses are included in this EVACUATION ALERT:

  • 3545, 3595, 3625, 3645, 3677, 3707, 3723, 3737, 3751, 3765, 3777, 3850, 3985, 4017, 4029, 4049, 4069, 4129, 4163, 4200, 4215, 4400, 4401, and 4625 Westside Road

Fire crews are aware of increased fire activity in the area and are responding.

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be called while separated.
  • Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure. 
  • Prepare to move persons with disabilities, children and/or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).
  • Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles. If transportation assistance is needed, call [contact number].
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible. 
  • Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating.

An evaluation of the situation is underway and specific details will be released as they are confirmed. Public safety and the safety of emergency response personnel are the primary concerns at this time. 

Emergency Operations Centre staff are working with other response agencies to manage the situation and minimize the impacts, but residents of the area should be prepared to follow an evacuation order.
