Peachland Creek Wildfire tactical evacuations underway
Peachland, B.C. – Tactical evacuations are underway for approximately 50 homes in the areas of Renfrew Road, Ferguson Place, Sherburn Road and Stuart Crescent South.
Peachland, Kelowna and West Kelowna fire crews with 12 apparatus on scene, with the support of the BC Wildfire, are actioning the Peachland Creek Wildfire. Highway 97 is closed between Hardy Street and Renfrew Road in both directions. Visit DriveBC.ca for up to date highway information.
Evacuation Muster Centre
All residents who have been tactically evacuated may proceed to the Peachland Community Centre located at 4450 6th Street, Peachland.
For in-person support, people who cannot meet their own needs during this evacuation should report to the reception/muster centre for assistance and lodging. ESS volunteers are available to help affected residents.
People needing support during an evacuation are encouraged to create a profile online at ESS.gov.bc.ca. People who have created a profile can log into the online self-service registration tool to receive instructions on the types of support available and how they can be accessed.
WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:
- Follow the direction of emergency personnel.
- Shut off all gas and electrical appliances other than refrigerators and freezers.
- Close all windows and doors.
- Close gates (latch) but do not lock.
- Gather your family and, if you have room, take a neighbour or someone needing transportation. Do not use more vehicles then you have to.
- Take critical items (medicine, purse, wallet, and keys) only if they are immediately available. Take pets in pet kennels or on leash.
- Do not use the telephone unless you need emergency service.
Emergency response personnel request that the public:
- Avoid the area so emergency responders can effectively perform their duties
- Please only CALL 911 in case of emergency
