Evacuation alerts lifted, continued vigilance for the wildfire season ahead

WEST KELOWNA, B.C.  – The evacuation alert for the 742 households in the Casa Loma and Lakeview Heights areas has now been lifted, and the State of Local Emergency has ended.

It was a quiet night on the fire line, with no major issues reported. Today, seven West Kelowna Fire Rescue staff are patrolling the area, focusing on mop-up and hot spots. BC Wildfire crews have concluded operations and left equipment in place to support the ongoing work. Thank you to BC Wildfire for their support.

Residents may notice lingering smoke and ongoing movement of firefighting equipment in the area. If residents observe fire activity outside of designated or expected areas, report wildfires by calling *5555, or dial 911 for fires within city limits.

It is imperative that residents and visitors keep a safe distance from the neighbourhoods in the wildfire-impacted zone. For public safety, Kalamoir Regional Park remains closed. For up-to-date information on the park closure, visit rdco.com/parks.

Be prepared

Residents are encouraged to be prepared and create an emergency plan. A home emergency plan says how you and the people you live with will respond during an emergency, particularly for the first 72-hours. Knowing what to do, where to go and who to contact will reduce stress and help keep you focused and safe. Find resources below to help you plan.
