Evacuation Alert: Blue Grouse Creek wildfire

West Kelowna, B.C.  –  An evacuation alert is in place for the Blue Grouse Creek area due to a wildfire in the area of Bear Creek Main. Please refer to the interactive map on coemergency.ca/map where you can search by street address to determine if you are affected. 

The following streets are covered in this alert:

  • Baird Road
  • Bancroft Road
  • Banff Road
  • Bear Lake Road from Westside Road to Bald Range Creek37 Blue Grouse Road
  • Blue Grouse Mountain Road
  • Bolton Road
  • Browse Road
  • Edith Court
  • Heldon Court
  • Siemens Road
  • Traders Cove Road
  • From Bear Creek Provincial Park to 2171 Westside Road North

Residents in the area are advised to be ready to leave their homes at a moment’s notice. They should be prepared to be away from home for an extended period, make arrangements for their pets, and pack essential items such as medicines and important documents. 

WHAT YOU SHOULD DO:

  • Locate all family members and designate a meeting area outside the evacuation area, should an Evacuation Order be called while separated.
  • Pack essential items such as government-issued ID, medications, eyeglasses, valuable papers (e.g. insurance, credit, and mortgage information), immediate care needs for dependents and, if time and space permits, keepsakes for quick departure. 
  • Prepare to move persons with disabilities, children and/or neighbours, if assistance is needed.
  • Prepare to take pets with you and move livestock to a safe area (if possible).
  • Arrange transportation for all your household members. Fill the gas tanks of personal vehicles. If transportation assistance is needed, call the Emergency Operations Centre’s public information line at 250-469-8490 or 1-877-569-8490.
  • Arrange accommodation for all members of the residence, if possible.
  • Wait for an Evacuation Order to be issued before evacuating. 
  • Monitor coermergency.ca for information on evacuation orders and the location of Reception/Muster Centres.

Emergency Support Services (ESS)

The Central Okanagan Emergency Management is receiving evacuees from the Bradley Creek wildfire at the Westbank Lions Community Centre at 2466 Main Street in West Kelowna. ESS volunteers are available until further notice to assist evacuees displaced by the wildfire.

Killiney Beach utility

A power outage in the area of Killiney Beach has impacted the utility. Residents served by the water utility are advised to conserve water to protect water supply. For the latest power restoration updates, visit bchydro.com.

An evaluation of the situation is underway and specific details will be released as they are confirmed. Public safety and the safety of emergency response personnel are the primary concerns at this time. 

Emergency Operations Centre staff are working with other response agencies to manage the situation and minimize the impacts, but residents of the area should be prepared to follow an evacuation order.
