Central Okanagan Emergency Management launches new emergency notification system
Central Okanagan, B.C. — Central Okanagan Emergency Management (COEM) is introducing Alertable as the region’s new emergency notification system, improving how residents receive urgent public safety information.
Alertable replaces the Central Okanagan’s previous email-only emergency notifications, giving residents more options to receive alerts during fast-moving emergencies such as wildfires, floods and evacuation events.
Alertable is a free emergency notification app used by emergency agencies across B.C. and Canada. It delivers verified public safety alerts, including evacuation alerts and orders, wildfire and flood information, and other safety updates.
One of the key benefits of Alertable is choice. Residents can receive alerts by mobile app notification, email, text message (SMS) or phone call, and can select the locations they want alerts for, including Kelowna, West Kelowna, Lake Country, Peachland, Westbank First Nation and Electoral Areas East and West.
Residents who previously subscribed to Central Okanagan emergency email notifications are already pre-registered in Alertable using their email addresses and are encouraged to review and update their preferred methods of receiving updates or unsubscribe if no longer relevant.
Emergency information will continue to be shared through official channels, including the COEM website, local media, social media and regional partners. The enhanced emergency notifications will strengthen the Emergency Operations Centre’s ability to reach people quickly when it matters most.
